Osmo vs Water-based finish

Wood is a hygroscopic substance. This means it adapts to surrounding humidity levels and changes its moisture content by absorbing and releasing it.

To demonstrate this, Osmo completed a little experiment: They’ve applied their oil-and-wax-based Osmo Polyx®-Oil (left), a water-based finish (centre) and a coat of water (right) to three pieces of veneer. Watch what happens when wood comes into direct contact with moisture.
